Midland Volunteer Fire Department was established, incorporated and received its charter on January 28th, 1955 by Thad Eure Secretary of State for North Carolina. At that time there were only five fire departments in existence in Cabarrus County: Concord, Kannapolis, Mount Pleasant, Jackson Park, and Harrisburg. With the closest fire truck being over 15 miles away, firefighting was limited to buckets and garden hoses.
Listed as nonprofit organization (501C3), Midland VFD receives funding from various sources such as; government and commercial grants, charitable contributions, plus separate service contracts with Cabarrus County and the Town of Midland.
Citizens in the Midland Fire District pay a fire tax of .055 per one hundred dollars of assessed property value for fire protection which is accessed and collected by Cabarrus County. While citizens inside the town limits of Midland have no fire tax accessed, through a contract, financial consideration is provided by the Town of Midland.
